About

Joquan Johnson is a London-based cellist, researcher, and educator whose work bridges performance, scholarship, and community engagement. A recent graduate of Goldsmiths, University of London with a BMus in Music (2:1), Joquan is now pursuing a PhD exploring eighteenth-century Black British classical musicians and how the public school secondary music curriculum has played a part in the exclusion of their history. Alongside his academic work, he performs with the Orchestra of the City and has been involved in many creative projects. Passionate about education and inclusivity, Joquan is also the Programme Coordinator of Goldsmiths’ Alchemy initiative, a role through which he supports young people in developing their creativity and navigating pathways into the arts. His research and practice alike are rooted in uncovering overlooked histories and empowering new generations of musicians to see themselves reflected in the art they create.
